MERLE "SMOKEY" RICHARDS Merle "Smokey" Richards, 75, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, at Seneca District Hospital, in Chester, Calif. He was a resident of West- wood for 32 years coming from Medford, Ore. He was born March 18, 1925, in Coopers Township, Ill. He was retired from Collins Pine after 23 years of service. He had been em- ployed as a loader and baler. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in the Pacific during World War II. He liked taking a leisurely automobile ride to enjoy the beauty of the area. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, E. Mae Richards, of Westwood; sons, Charles Androy of Westwood and Michael Richards, of Illinois; daughters, Sandra Whitlock, of Westwood and Marsha Richards, of Illinois; grand- children, Tawnia, Tom and Kristina Androy, all of West- wood and Lacie Whitlock of Yerrington, Nev. Following cremation at Fehrman Crematory in Quin- cy, a private family celebra- tion of his life, along with in- urnment with military honors was held Friday Nov. I0, at the graveside in the West- wood Cemetery. SIDNEY ARTHUR OLSEN Sidney Arthur Olsen, 71, a lifetime resident of Madeline, died at his home Friday, Oct. 28, 2000. He was born in Susanville on Jan. 8, 1929, to Carl and Dolly Olsen. After serving two years in the Army, Olsen went to work for the Lassen County Road Department and retired after 30 years of service. He was an avid horseshoe player, enjoyed hunting, camping and participating in community events held in Madeline. He was a member of the Likely Roping Club, Mule Deer Foundation and the Madeline Fire Depart- ment. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Dol- ly, and sisters, Shirley Seeley and Barbara Jones. Olsen was interred at Like. ly Cemetery followed with a fellowship at the Madeline Fire Hall.
