Obviously she's never been in Mountain Meadows or seen a grave site, because once you know what they look like, you will see them everywhere out there. It's a site you don't forget.too easily. This is a woman who for the last seven years written of the glories of the Dyer Mountain Resort Project, on which is where the very bur- ial and sacred sites of the Maidu People are. She writes (in a previous article) that she's not leaving Lassen County until she skis down Dyer Mountain. She wants to ski right over those burial sites. She doesn't consider that if thiswere her family burial, she'd be skiing right over their final resting place. Or for that matter, if a developer came along and wanted to build say a mega resort on top of the cemetery that her fam- ily is buried in. HOW would she feel about having her fam- ily members dug up and placed in a box and left in a university or museum base- ment, maybe without her knowledge or permission? Now there's noble a statement and a half. I find Ms. Ashmore's editor- ial just a little hypercritical on her part. This place, Mountain Meadows and the surround- ing mountains and lakes, have been the sacred holy land for the Maidu People since contact time and beyond. She just now realizes this?? She needs to re-read Dr. Sara ToUey, PhD, book the "Quest for Tribal Acknowledgement: California's Honey Lake Maidu" because sometimes you have to read something twice to get the point. And she certainly was missing it. Get a grip woman. Judy Robinson Westwood Editors note." Ms. Robinson's letter is published without corrections as requested. Global warming - fact or fancy? That man primarily causes global warming is pure fancy. The global warming activists would have you believe that unless dramatic changes are made we will either be roasted todeath or drown in the rising seas. Is there solid evidence that the earth is warming due to man's use of fossil fuels, putting excessive amounts of Co2 in the atmosphere? The answer is no! Even the U.N. is admitted in a 1995 chart that earth temperatures during the past several decades were not as warm as back in the medieval warm period of alone 1,000 years. Yet we are continually being bombarded by alarmist's headlines predict- ing doom and gloom from future weather changes. Consider the four climate disasters predicted by the New York Times in the last 100 years. Feb. 1895 Geologists think the world may be frozen up again. Dooms sayers say Canada may be wiped out and lower crop fields will cause billions to die. March 1922: America is in the longest warm spell since 1776 as temperatures record a 25.year rise. June 1974: Weather aberra- tion may be harbinger of another ice age. Dec. 2005: Climatologists state the ice cores left no doubt that burning fossil fuels is warming up the atmosphere in a precedence way. Two predictions of a com- ing ice age - and two of exces- sive heat - so its either global cooling or warming. The heast is caused by man; but no culprit for the cold causes the heat. So that puts into perspective the global warming, hoax. The more Co2 in the atmos- phere the more abundant and bigger the plant life. This is the way God created environment control. They will clearly show that the old logging road hugs the mountainas it comes into the Cherry Terrace area and is a good distance from the athlet. ic fields and grade school. Also drive up to the athletic fields at Susan Ranch Park and you will see that there is no trace of a road that is close to or coming toward this area from the southwest. What I have proposed for the old.logging road is that only one half of its width be rejuvenated so that it would be a one way single lane road for large eastbound trucks that could be diverted onto it from Highway 36. This would be an economi- cal, viable, and quick solution to the vexing problem, in uptown Susanville. To see how easy it would be for large eastbound trucks to turn left off of Highway 36 onto the Eagle Lake Road go out to the blinking red stop- light where Highway 44 comes into Highway 36. The large eastbound trucks have to wait until both lanes are clear before they turn left onto Highway 36. A the juncture of Highway 36 and the Eagle Lake Road the large eastbound trucks have to only wait until the westbound lane is clear before they make a left turn. This is a no brainier; do not make it out to be any more than that. Gall Cramer mentioned by name both the managing edi- tor of the Times and myself and not her county supervi- sor Chapman although he said. that using the old log- ging road again might be a To 14 years of athletic teams, she was a friendly face in the crowd when our teams traveled. She became an integral part of each of our programs. Parents knew that nO matter the weather, or how late we got home, she would always provide a warm safe ride for their child to their front door. Who knows exactly how many times she has cheered for the red and black from the sidelines? All we know is that she has been there to celebrate our impressive victories, and suf- fered along side us when we faced heartbreaking defeat. The entire community of Westwood owes her a huge debt of gratitude for being so diligent and taking the responsibility for transport- ing their sons and daughters with the astute professional- ism of a veteran and the kind- ness and understanding of a mother. Even though we can- not call you "our" bus driver anymore, we will always call you a friend. Nancy Barrera Westwood Town Hill aftermath At last night's town hill meeting, I briefly mentioned another alternative solution to the (Uptown truck) prob- lem but it should be noted that Lassen County drivers have been pointing the way to a very conservative solution through their driving habits. Much of the Co2 generated by man is consumed by vege- tation, which, by the way can- not survive with out it. Is it a poison, an enemy that we must get rid of? Not in the least. Co2 and oxygen are the twin gases of life. Humans and animals breathe in oxy- gen and breath out Co2. Plants breath in Co2 and make carbohydrates, and breathe out oxygen. The truth of the matter is our globe is either warming or cooling. But more impor- tantly, the weather is not con- trollable by man, only God controls the weather. This is what God said after the universal flood; "While the earth remaineth, seed time and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter and day and night, shall not cease." The global change activists want to eliminate oil, gas, coal and natural gas, only nuclear energy remains. They would like to transform America into a natural envi- ronment like the Indians had. Some businesses would be dis- placed but they could certain- ly be relocated to a rejuvenat- ed upper Main Street. I have been making draw- ings of this route and the ben- efits seem more obvious as I work on it. The future of Main Street currently looks bleak if truck traffic is going to increase. Also consider what will hap- pen when the car dealers build the new facility on Johnstonville Road and we have two more outdated empty buildings Uptown. Consider instead the bene- fit of restoring Main Street to only two" traffic lanes with diagonal parking and easy access to Uptown shops. An inexpensive but superi- or solution has been staring us in the face if only we rec- ognize it. I plan to take this idea to City Council and the Economic Development Departmenf but I know we need CalTrans on board as well. Jim McCarthy Susanville lilll I.
