Chapter members voted to create the committee and made many suggestions of worthwhile organizations they wanted to help. 3 In March, the members col- lected items for the Lassen County Animal Shelter. A pile of blankets, towels, chew toys, play toys, canned and dry food was collected at their monthly meeting. This month, chapter mem- bers collected 30 one-yard lengths of fleece and cash donations for "Carrie Your Blanket," a local charitable organization that provides blankets to children in crises (hospitalized or m a crisis sit- uation). "Carrie Your Blanket" was formed by Phyllis' Lewis McDonald in memory of her daughter, Carrie Star Lewis, a young young lady with Cerebral Palsy who died in 2001. Carrie had a heart for helping others and loved children. Phyllis has a group of dedicated "blanket stars" who turn the one-yard lengths into beauti- ful blankets by serge-stitch- mg the edges and stitching a special label to one corner. The blankets are provided free of charge to children who are in some kind of phys- ical or emotional crises, or who are developmentally delayed. If you know of a child with a special need, you may contact Phyllis at 251- 0449. In May, chapter members will be collecting canned goods and other non-perish- able food items for our local food bank at Crossroads Ministries. A collection box is located in or near the office at each school site. Anyone is welcome to contribute to this food drive! Many local fami- lies are in need of a helping hand throughout the year, not just at Thanksgiving and Christmas. e We recognize April 29 through May 5 Municipal Clerks Week, and extend appreciation to our municipal clerk, Debra M. Magginetti for the vital she performs and her dedication to the community. North Lassen St. -HAIR HUNTERS SALON.
